Greenwood Rye
Greenwood Rye is a modern jam-grass band, formed in Nashville during pandemic-times as the house band for the award-winning bluegrass supper club, Jane's Hideaway. The band is led by Shawn Spencer on Guitar and Vocals, and a main cast of Josie Toney (Fiddle, Vox), David Freeman (Mandolin, Vox), Taylor Shuck (Banjo), & Andy Brown(Upright Bass).
The group writes fun, modern songs that are rooted in bluegrass, throwing in some jam-band tendencies, and an occasional kick-drum or delay pedal. And they love performing fresh renditions of eclectic covers of all genres done with the beautiful sounds of acoustic bluegrass instruments.
Their latest album, "Hideaway" had a single, "Down to the River" debuted by Bluegrass Situation and two singles placed on Spotify's Official Editorial "New Grass" Playlist. The album that was released just last August already has over 370k Spotify streams.
Recently they have been venturing further and further from Nashville, playing on festivals such as ROMP, Americanafest, Official IBMA Showcase, Albino Skunk and a slew of other small festivals, clubs, events and house concerts.
Currently they are in residence at The Countrypolitan in Nashville, where they play every week for locals and tourists from across the country who come to Nashville looking for a great, authentic music experience.
The residency also features regular guest appearances by some of Nashville’s greatest young bluegrass players including Frank Evans (Bronwyn Keith-Hines, Slocan Ramblers), Sasha Ostrovsky (Darius Rucker), Josh Rilko (Sierra Ferrell, Lindsey Lou), Oliver Craven (Straybirds, Western Centuries), Alex Genova (Fireside Collective, Jason Carter) Tony Aichelle (Travis Tritt, Morgan Wallen), Larry Cook (Tony Trishka), Brenna MacMillan Ben Plotnick on Fiddle, Mandolin, Bass, Dobro, and Banjo.
