Thank you for your interest in Rockwood Booking. We do try and review every submission, but we’d like to share some insight into what artists typically need in place before an agency partnership makes sense.
First, please review the types of artists we represent. Our roster focuses on roots, Americana, bluegrass, rock, folk, and jazz.
To attract a professional team (agents, managers, etc.), an artist must already be generating enough revenue to support those dedicating their time and expertise to the business side of your career.
While every situation is different, here are a few general benchmarks that often signal an artist is ready for representation:
Gross yearly touring revenue: $50K–$100K+ (from live performance payouts only)
Ticket sales: 200–400 hard tickets for a headline play in your home market, and 100+ in several secondary markets
Momentum: Growing social media and Spotify numbers aren’t essential, but do indicate an expanding audience and ticket-buying fanbase
Again, every situation is different and there are plenty of stories about agents and managers finding an artist that has none of these numbers but they feel like it’s a good fit with a high chance of growth and success.
It’s also important to understand that agents and managers can’t grow your audience — only you can. They can leverage your momentum to open new doors, but it’s your ability and hard work to draw 200+ fans on any given night that truly drives your own path to success.
So how do you know when you’re ready?
If you can honestly say, “I need help because I have more show offers than I can manage,” that’s the ideal time to expand your team.
